Syngenta (3 sites)

Syngenta is the world’s leading seed producer. As part of its operational excellence approach, three production sites have been equipped with Aquiweb MES software. This case study covers the entire process as well as the feedback from the employees of the Nérac plant.

Syngenta: World leader in crop protection and seed production

Syngenta’s head office is in Switzerland. In France, the company has 6 production sites for the manufacture of seeds and phytosanitary products for crop protection.

Research and innovation are key areas of focus. More than 5,000 researchers work in the R&D department at 11 sites around the world. The world’s leading seed company works with the entire agricultural world to offer competitive, responsible and environmentally friendly products.

In 2013, Astrée Software first intervened on the Nérac site, dedicated to seeds. Since then, Aquiweb MES software has been installed at two other sites: Gaillon and Aigues-Vives.

An Operational Excellence approach supported by MES software

Syngenta’s Operational Excellence approach has been supported by the implementation of Aquiweb software. The use of this system has allowed better monitoring of production and better circulation of information between all the players.

The production monitoring software, in a simple and intuitive way, has contributed to a 4% increase in OEE. This tool, which is attractive to operators, facilitates the commitment of the staff. Aquiweb was used to dematerialize the monitoring and traceability of operations (process, weighing, packaging and laboratory).

Aquiweb seen by operators (production and laboratory)

The software allowed the reliable declaration of the beginning and end of tasks: production (PO) and non-production (indirect tasks). It is a tactile and attractive tool. For the laboratory work, we can make extractions more regularly and close them more easily.

MES software as seen by managers

For the Syngenta group, the Aquiweb software offers clear reporting (Adherence to the production plan, number of observations reported, number of observations closed, dematerialization of quality controls, etc.). It serves as a support for the SIO.

This tool allows real-time monitoring and traceability of production as well as better exchanges with the services of the plant and the customers.

Syngenta achieves Class A certification with Aquiweb support

The “Class A” certification takes the operational excellence approach even further. We talk about corporate excellence. The best known standard for this certification is the Oliver Wight standard.

Syngenta Nérac began this process in 2015 with the goal of pushing the site to structure its day-to-day management activities. The fundamental topic is planning, but it also encompasses the way the organization is managed in terms of new product introduction, operational excellence and human resources management.

Aquiweb was used to clarify machine rates in order to transmit reliable data to the planning department. The procedures (instantaneous machine throughput + changeover times) are monitored in a tangible and factual manner.
